One of our core brandsGT Bicycles presented earlier in 2023 a new DH bike called Fury. And it had great timing as it was before our annual sales show. So we decided to build our custom Fury and put components from other brands we distribute on it. Let’s check it out how it went.

Carbon frame and top-tier suspension

The whole bike is built around the current generation of GT Fury frame. The front triangle is made of carbon, and the rear end is made from aluminium. It is possible to build the whole 29” or still more popular mullet bike with 27,5” rear wheels. We decided to build as a full 29er. The Fury frame has internal cable routing, UDH hanger and flip chip, which allows suspension progression to be changed. You can find more about the Fury on the GT Bicycles website.

Suspension is in the hands of Rock Shox. The fork is a top model Rock Shox BoXXer Ultimate with 200 mm of travel, Charger 3 damping, 52 mm offset and DebonAir+ air spring with Buttercups. The rear shock is SuperDeluxe Coil Ultimate with a 500lbs Rock Shox spring and a wide range of tune possibilities of compression, rebound and HBO.

Drivetrain and brakes from SRAM

Drivetrain and brakes are under the wings of American concern SRAM. The whole drivetrain is covered by Sram X01DH groupset – 165 mm carbon cranks, 34t chainring, 7-speed cassette with 10-24 range and xD driver and rear derailleur with a shorter cage to avoid contact with rocks or roots during the ride.

The bike is built with the Sram Code Silver Stealth brakes. These brakes have four pistons, tool-free reach adjust, and tool-free contact point adjust on the lever. Stealth means that brake hoses are fit as close as possible to handlebars to keep looking neat. Brake rotors are Sram HS2 with 2 mm thickness and 220 mm diameter!

Wheels and tires made in France

A proper DH bike needs proper wheels. So, for this build, we chose the legendary Mavic Deemax 29 with 25 years of history in their pocket. Deemax wheels with 28 mm internal rim width, 28 J-bend spokes for a quick and easy fix and ID360 driver calm the driver and give him maximum support during the ride.

French wheelsets need French tires. As a distributor of Michelin tires, we chose Michelin DH 22 in Racing Line. These tires are a great combination of Magi-XDH compound and DH Shield protection, and what is more – they allow you to have very low tire pressure without being afraid of destroying the rim.

Only few a pieces left to solve

We were not forced to go far for the handlebars, stem, seatpost, saddle, grips, and pedals. We went to our warehouse and chose all of the components from our brands. Handlebars and stem come from Truvativ. Handlebars are 800 mm Descendant with 35 mm diameter and 25 mm rise. Descendant is also the stem with 50 mm length and 35 mm diameter. Grips are Sram Locking DH, seatpost has Zipp logo with zero offset and 31.6 mm diameter. The saddle is Fizik Gravita Alpaca X5 130 mm.

Last but not least are pedals. We put the legendary TIME SPECIALE 12 on the bike in a luxury red colour. Pedals have 5 mm side play and you can set the spring tension. Also, you can add pins to the pedal body to improve your stability while riding the bike.
